Unreasonable excitement

Once in a while something occurs which generates an amount of excitement not in proportion to the event.

On my way into work, I drive under the runway(s) of a major international airport. I still derive an unreasonable amount of excitement if I happen to drive under one of the runways while a plane is taking off or taxiing.

I almost popped the other day when not only did this momentous event occur, but was added to by the appearance of a couple of rabbits at the side of the runway over the road. Gracious, I nearly crashed.

Saturday

Just been out to see the bat. Perhaps 'one of the bats' is more accurate, although it is difficult to differentiate between them/it. No sign of hedgehogs yet.

There are four trees at the bottom of the garden. The holly tree, which is green all year, the willow which is beautiful and drapes down to the lawn, and the eucalyptus in next door, which is also green all year. Those three really work well together, though I doubt they benefit the local fauna very much.

The fourth tree is very odd. Here we are in the first week of June yet it is only just starting to show evidence of leaves. I wonder if that it is meant to do this, or whether it is on its way out..

Anyway, this afternoon it was alive with long tailed tits. There must have been 10 or 20 scattered among its branches all nibbling (do birds nibble?) away at the buds on the ends of the branches.

Saw a pair of newts in the pond again today. This is most exciting. C would have been beside herself with excitement. Perhaps she is.

Laid turf round the far end of the pond too. If the weather lives up to the forecast it'll get a good drink tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to
water it....

Cut the hedge today too. Looks much better.
